Soy production is causing severe social and environmental impacts in soy producing
countries. Such impacts include deforestation, conflicts over land rights, pollution, and
health problems caused by the spraying of pesticides. Since the Netherlands is the second
largest importer of soy in the world, Dutch Civil Society Organizations joined forces in the
Dutch Soy Coalition (DSC) in order to support and complement the work of their partner
organizations in soy producing countries.
The DSC urges all actors in the soy value chain – from producers to consumers – to take
concrete measures to reduce the social and environmental impacts caused by soy
production. Not only should actors aim for a more responsible soy production; the
consumption of soy should also be reduced.
